Centre's service charge cap on COVID-19 vaccines leads to price rejig for private hospitals; Covaxin most expensive at Rs 1410
With Prime Minister Modi announcing a price cap on service charges for COVID-19 vaccines at private hospitals in his address yesterday, vaccines prices across manufacturers have seen a revision.
With the Rs 150 price cap in effect and inclusive of 5% GST, the prices are now as follows:
Covishield: Rs 780
Covaxin: Rs 1,410
Sputnik V: Rs 1,145
The service charge cap has been enforced in an attempt to control vaccine pricing and accelerate India's inoculation drive. "It is unacceptable that hospitals charge Rs 1,600 or even Rs 4,000 for vaccines that cost Rs 600. They must limit their price," said Niti Aayog's Dr VK Paul.
